Colonel Goshu Wolde, foreign minister during the Derg regime, returned to his country
Colonel Goshu Wolde was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Education of the Derg during the Derg regime, and today he has returned to his home country, Ethiopia. High ranking government officials were in the airport to welcome Colonel Goshu.
Colonel Goshu Wolde today announced that he has spent his past 32 years in the United States by opposing the Derg regime. Colonel Goshu said: He still have the opportunity to return to their country and look at the overall change in the country, to ask their friends and relatives, and to support the peace, love and affair that the country have already begun.
The Colonel also thanked the Prime Minister, Dr. Abay Ahmed, for the start of the roundtable and truce, and also by mentioning that the Colonel did not have any interest in politics or power anymore. He added that the current new peace, reconciliation and acceleration movement, which is being launched in the country, should be supported by all Ethiopians, especially the youth. He also asserted that the young man had a good understanding of the value of the peace and should avoid all acts of violence.
The Colonel said that he believes the situation is something that can be resolved in a peaceful manner in Ethiopia. In the process, the Colomel says that they want to share his past experience for the smooth transition of the process, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Communication Office.
